HOMME: As a member of the Malaysian National Golf Team, what does representing your country on the international stage mean to you, and how do you handle the pressure that comes with it?
AIDEN KEI : I haven’t had the chance to officially represent Malaysia on the international stage just yet, but it’s something I’m working towards every single day. Playing for the KL State Team has been an incredible experience, and it’s only fueled my hunger to go further. Pressure is part of the game, but I see it as a privilege. If anything, it excites me. The idea of one day wearing Malaysia’s colours and competing against the world’s best keeps me pushing my limits.
HOMME : Golf is a sport that requires immense mental focus. What strategies do you use to stay mentally sharp during high-stakes tournaments?
AK : Nature is my reset button. When the pressure’s on, I take a moment to look at the trees, the sky, or just feel the wind. It helps me stay calm, present and centered. Golf is such a mental game, and sometimes, the best thing you can do is step back, take a deep breath, and let the game flow.
HOMME : Who are your golfing idols, and how have they influenced your playing style and approach to the game?
AK : I grew up watching Jordan Spieth (thanks to my dad), but now I really admire Scottie Scheffler. His consistency is unreal, and his short game is solid. Watching him play made me realize that talent alone isn’t enough—you have to put in the work every single day. That’s why I train six days a week.
HOMME : What are your long-term goals in golf, and how do you plan to achieve them while balancing the demands of training and competition?
AK : The ultimate dream? Representing Malaysia on the biggest stages i.e the Olympics and, one day, earning my spot on the PGA Tour and make my way towards major championships with the goal of clinching the grand slam. That’s what I wake up thinking about every morning. Getting there takes discipline, short-term goals that build towards the big picture, and surrounding myself with people who push me to be better.
HOMME : How do you see the future of golf in Malaysia, and what role do you hope to play in inspiring the next generation of Malaysian golfers?
AK: Malaysia isn’t short of golfing talents—players like the Green brothers, Erwin Chang, Danny Chia, etc. have proven that we can compete internationally but still missing that ….. Being exposed to this game at a tender age of 7, I have witnessed and participated first-hand how some of our local golf associations were able to develop junior programs to a very respectable level. These associations were somewhat successful to create many potential and promising junior golfers, but sad to say, for golf to really grow here, these young talents need support. I myself am very sad to see some of my gifted colleagues just simply disappear. Golf is not the most accessible sport, and I know first-hand how much it takes—training, tournaments, coaches, travelling, equipment, etc. It is just too expensive! If we want to see more Malaysians making it onto the world stage, we need to invest in the next generation. Hopefully, as I progress in my own career, I can help be part of that change.

Fun Questions :
HOMME : If you could play a round of golf with any three people, living or deceased, who would they be and why?
AK : Rory McIlroy – His course management is next level, and I’d love to pick his brain.
Jack Nicklaus – Just to learn how to take risks without losing control of my game.
Atthaya “Jeeno” Thitikul – She’s an incredible talent and proof that South East Asian golfers can dominate. Plus, she’s quite charming.
HOMME : Funniest moment on the golf course?
AK : That time, I almost threw my dad off a golf buggy. My first time driving, course was wet, and I got overconfident… buggy did a full 360 while he was hanging on for dear life. I was banned from driving until recently. Hehe…
HOMME : What is your best scoring round of golf?
AK : It was last year during a tournament at Kelab Golf Perhidmatan Awam (KGPA) where I shot a total of 63. It was a brilliant round of golf where I felt I couldn’t do anything wrong. Doesn’t happen that often but boy, it was a sensational feeling indeed.
HOMME : If you weren’t golfing, what career would you pursue?
AK : I’ve been into fragrances ever since I was young. I find it very fascinating about how different scents come together. If I had more time, I’d love to study perfumery and maybe even create my own signature cologne. Who knows? A golf-inspired scent one day?
HOMME : Go-to pre-tournament meal or snack to get you in the zone?
AK : I’d love to say I have a strict diet, but honestly? I just love food. I eat pretty much anything, and so far, it’s worked out fine! Maybe as I get older, I’ll start thinking about nutrition more, but for now, I’m just enjoying the metabolism of my youth.
