KL City Opera proudly presents Young Mozart Voyager, an original family-friendly opera pantomime introducing children and families to the world of Mozart through a vibrant blend of music, theatre, and storytelling. Premiering on 31 May 2025, this English-language production features musical highlights from The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute, promising an accessible and enchanting experience for audiences of all
ages.

SYNOPSIS :
Young Mozart Voyager follows a curious child who journeys through the fantastical realms of Mozart’s operas, meeting beloved characters such as Papageno, the Queen of the Night, and Figaro. The show celebrates imagination, friendship, and the joy of live music.

Mozart – Qahar Aqilah

Recent credits include:- Titus Andronicus by lowercase laboratories (2024) and The Golden Age of Broadway by KLCO (2025). Qahar Aqilah has been primarily an actor, acting teacher, and a voice enthusiast for over 20 years. He was trained as an actor at the Michael Howard Studios in New York, where he studied, to name a few, Voicework with David Wells and the “Shakespeare in The Present” series of workshops with Patsy Rodenburg. Qahar was a Best Supporting Actor nominee for the 17th BOH Cameronian Art Awards in 2020.

Susanna – Cheryl Tan

Cheryl Chitty Tan is best known for playing Yehenara in Forbidden City at the Esplanade in Singapore, or for leading the Mediacorp series Faculty. Other stage credits include Romeo and Juliet (SRT), Mama White Snake (Wild Rice), Displaced Persons’ Welcome Dinner (Checkpoint), Beauty World (Dick Lee), dan lain lain. TV credits include Derek, Code of Law V, Paddles Up, After Dark – Skin Deep, and HBO’s Westworld. She wrote lyrics for full length musical The Monster In The Mirror (available on Spotify under Bitesize Theatre Productions) and has a Boh Cameronian Art Award for Best Lead in a Musical. Countess – Renna Kim

Renna Kim, from Korea, studied opera in university and later learned more about music education in graduate school. After getting married, she stopped performing for a while to take care of her children. But her life changed when she moved to Malaysia because of her husband’s job.
There, she found KLCO, which helped her love for music grow again. Excited by this new chance, she started performing again, using her experience and passion for opera in a new way. Her story shows her strength, ability to adjust, and how music always stays important in her life.

Cherubino / Papagena – Natalie Makulin

Natalie, a proud Kadazan from Penampang, Sabah, is a singer and musical theatre performer. She debuted in The Reluctant Saint The Musical (2010) and later performed in Euphrasia The Musical (2019, 2020) and Nick Choo’s Lost/Found – Searching (2019) and Follow The Light (2022). Her theatre credits include A Christmas Carol (2021) and Mama Looking For Her Cat (2023). With KL City Opera, she sang in Carmen (2022), L’elisir D’amore (2023), and La Bohème (2024). She also performed in DAMA’s In Perfect Harmony Too (2023) and Tutan Entertainment’s Broadway & Beyond and Symphonic Rock (2024). Beyond performing, Natalie is a freelance early years and speech & drama educator, previously teaching in KL City Opera’s
Opera for Kids (2022–2024).

Figaro – Wynn Ch’ng Way Sean

Human, performer and arts management practitioner. Wynn was born and raised in Penang. Later on, he ventured further into performing arts, arts management and cultural policy in Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
He was a bass/baritone in Taiwan National Choir, and worked with reputable orchestras and conductors. At the same time, he took a few solo roles not only in classical music but also singing jazz with the Penang Jazz Society whenever he was back in Malaysia. After he resigned from the choir, he started working as a performer at the Thermos Foundation, doing experimental recitals and educational programmes. He is now an active practitioner in the arts and cultural industries through managing different projects and taking up opportunities to perform. He hopes that through his efforts, he can build a more inclusive arts and culture world where people from all walks of life feel joyful as a result of appreciating the differences between them.

Count – Cao Yixiao

As a young baritone singer actively performing on the international opera stage, Cao Yixiao possesses a wealth of experience in this field. He has performed in numerous operas in several European countries, including China, France, Germany, and Spain. Among his many noteworthy roles, he has portrayed leading characters in productions such as Gianni Schicchi, Don Giovanni, and La bohème. Cao Yixiao’s accomplishments have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the gold medal in the Schumann Inspiration International Music Competition and the 2014 Asian Music and Dance Arts Festival. His talent and artistry make him an outstanding representative of the global music community.

Papageno – Adry Nasution

On any other day, Adry Nasution can be found designing and building Indoor Playgrounds, a cloud of saw dust trailing behind him as he moves or even while at his computer drawing. His passion for singing the blues and rock earlier on in his life, led him to discover musical theatre, and ever since then he has cherished every opportunity to be on stage as an actor, or off stage as a Stage Manager. Apart from that, he also draws from his experience and training as an Industrial Designer to build theatre sets and props. Needless to say, he just is in love with the world of performing arts.
Some of his past productions as an actor are; Working Dead The Musical (2024), IndicineLIVE versi Halapan (2023), The Lesson (2022), The Zoo Story (2019), IndecineLIVE V (2018), Dato’ Seri (2018), FAME the Musical (2017), Ratna Katrina (DPAC’s D’Next Artist Project 2017), Avenue Q (2016), Tragedi Hamlet (2016), and Uda dan Dara (2015).

Tamino – Thompson Yunga

Thompson Yunga is a dedicated vocal lecturer at UiTM, where he shares his expertise and passion for music with the next generation of vocalists. He was a proud member of the prestigious UiTM Chamber Choir, an internationally renowned ensemble that has gained global recognition for its exceptional choral performances. Beyond teaching, Thompson has led vocal workshops across Malaysia, helping aspiring singers develop their vocal technique and performance skills. He has performed in both classical and contemporary styles, captivating audiences at a variety of local and international events. One of his notable performances was portraying Shush Toosh in The Merry Widow, under the direction of Bentley Music Academy, where he showcased his versatility and stage presence.
Thompson continues to contribute to the Malaysian music scene as both a performer and an educator.

Pamina – Sharlene Rani

By day, Sharlene is part of the aviation industry, and by night, she finds joy in pursuing her passion for music through singing. With a genuine love for the craft of classical singing, she is trained under the esteemed baritone Cha Seng Tiang. Sharlene is an active member of VerSeS Music Ensemble and has performed extensively, including appearances at the Singing Balcony and collaborative lecture recitals with local universities. In 2023, she took centre stage in the titular role of Dido in Purcell’s chamber opera, Dido and Aeneas. Currently, she is engaged with the Poetics Collective, where she performs captivating, heartfelt art songs.

Queen of the Night – Irma Lailatul

Irma Lailatul is a dynamic soprano known for her versatility and rich vocal artistry. She began her vocal training at 18 under the guidance of renowned mentors including Dato’ Syafinaz Selamat and Dr. Phang Kong Chien. A graduate of Mara UiTM with a BA (Hons.) in Music Performance (Voice), she further honed her craft with Mr. Leow Chee Wei. Irma’s repertoire spans Opera, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Contemporary, and Traditional music. Her performances have captivated audiences nationwide, often gracing private and charitable events for Malaysia’s royal families and elite circles. Highlights include regular appearances at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (2012–2016) and events hosted by Datuk Jimmy Choo, OBE. Internationally, she has represented Malaysia on prestigious stages, performing with the Prague Sinfonia Orchestra and the New York Harlem Singers. In 2018, she earned national recognition as the Women’s Category Champion. In addition to performing, Irma is a passionate educator, teaching at leading music institutions and inspiring the next generation of vocalists.

OPERA FOR KIDS & TEENS PROGRAMME :
KLCO’s Opera for Kids & Teens introduces children aged 6–15 to the joy of opera through storytelling, solfège, music theory, and theatre craft. Directed by Kodály-trained mezzo-soprano Yi Ling Chaing, the programme culminates in student concerts and on-stage experiences.
